How to make Dahi ki kadhi/kadhi vada recipe/curd curry recipe

Dahi ki kadhi is an Indian dish made with curd, chana dal, some spices and chana dal vada.


Here I'm gonna share step by step pictures of how to make Dahi ki kadhi in a simple way... It's an easy dish and Summertime dish too.

Dahi or curd is one of the staples in all our kitchen pantries and it has so many benefits too. Curd or yoghurt is rich in calcium, vitamins, potassium and magnesium

Summer season is started and thought of sharing some dish which is healthy and cool. Curd keeps the body and stomach cool. So today's recipe consists of curd which keeps this summer cooling. Let's move on to the recipe

Bengal gram or chana dal is soaked in water and ground in a mixer then added with some onions, spices and some curry leaves to make vada. Vada is then deep fried in a kadai. Then the fried vada is added in curd kadhi 

Dahi ki kadhi is best served with steamed rice, plain rice or jeera rice


DAHI KI KADHI RECIPE



PREPARATION TIME  : 10 MINS

COOKING TIME           : 15 MINS

COURSE  : MAIN COURSE


INGREDIENTS FOR DAHI KI KADHI (measuring cup 150 ml)

  • 2 tsp chana dal/ Bengal gram paste
  • 3 cup sour curd/yoghurt or dahi
  • 1 onion
  • 1 big tomato
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp coconut paste
  • Salt to taste

FOR TADKA

  • 1 small onion
  • 4 to 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 strand curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

FOR CHANA DAL VADA
  • 2 cups chana dal/ Bengal gram
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 strand curry leaves 
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Some coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

How to make Dahi ki kadhi

Vada preparation

1. Soak chana dal/ Bengal gram in water for about 2-3 hours

2. After soaking grind the dal in a mixer don't make a fine paste grind up to 90%.

3. Remove the paste in a bowl

4. Add on turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, chopped onions, curry leaves and some coriander leaves

5. Mix it well

6. Give a circle shape


FOR FRYING

Take a kadai and add oil and heat. When the oil is heated add the vada to fry. Fry on medium flame and fry till it turns a light brown colour. Remove it in a plate


FOR MAKING KADHI

Chop onion and tomato and put it in a jar to make a paste

In a kadai add curd, coconut paste, chana dal paste, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, onion &tomato paste and salt

Mix all the ingredients well and switch on the stove

Cook it on a low flame for 5-8 mins

Once it is done add fried chana dal vada

And cook in low flame for 5 mins


FOR TADKA

In a pan add some oil

Add on mustard seeds when it starts crackling add onion chopped, curry leaves and garlic cloves

Put this tadka in dahi ki kadhi

And serve hot with plain rice

Vada preparation



Soak chana dal/ Bengal gram in water for about 2-3 hours


After soaking grind the dal in a mixer don't make a fine paste grind up to 90%. Remove the paste in a bowl


Add on turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, chopped onions, curry leaves and some coriander leaves. Mix it well. Give a circle shape(i made a shape with the help of hands and directly put it for frying. So can't able to click the pic for this )

Cut onion and tomato into small pieces



         Mix it in a jar and make a paste 



In a kadai add curd, coconut paste, chana dal paste, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, onion&tomato paste and salt


Mix all the ingredients well and switch on the stove. Cook it in a low flame for 5-8 mins


Once it is done add fried chana dal vada. And cook in low flame for 5 mins


FOR TADKA


                 In a pan add some oil


                Add on mustard seeds 




when it starts crackling add garlic cloves


Add onions chopped



At last add curry leaves



Put this tadka in a dahi ki kadhi



     Mix it once and switch off the stove




Serve hot with plain rice
