How to make Aloo paratha recipe | potato stuffed paratha

Aloo paratha is one of the most popular breakfasts in North India and its surrounding. Aloo paratha consists of wheat dough stuffed with boiled mashed potatoes, onions, coriander leaves and spices which is rolled out and cooked on tawa with ghee or butter.



Aloo paratha is simple and tasty. It is usually served with mint chutney and Indian pickles. Aloo paratha is prepared with lots of ghee or butter in Punjab, if you are conscious about your health you can substitute to oil as well.

Aloo paratha is an easy and simple breakfast. This is one of my favourite breakfast and people of any age may like to eat this paratha. You can even pack this as a lunch for your kids, they will finish off there lunch happily. Let's have a look over the recipe

SERVINGS                      :  6 PARATHAS


INGREDIENTS 

For Aloo paratha stuffing

  • 2 to 3 medium sized boiled and mashed potatoes or Aloo
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp chaat masala
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp roasted cumin powder 
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp dry mango powder ( Amchur powder)
  • 2 tsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil or ghee for roasting parathas

For aloo paratha dough

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (150 ml)

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp oil

  • Water as required for kneading

How to make Aloo Paratha Recipe

Aloo paratha stuffing

1. Boil the potatoes in a pressure cooking and peel it off

2. Mash the boiled potatoes nicely without any lump. It must be smooth

3. Add garam masala powder, roasted cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, dry mango powder, chaat masala and salt 

4. Add on finely chopped coriander leaves and onion

5. Mix the spices, onion and coriander leaves with mashed potatoes very well

For dough

1. In a bowl take whole wheat flour or Atta

2. Add salt and oil and mix it well

3. Then add some water and make a dough by kneading it with hands

4. Rest it for 30 mins

Rolling Aloo paratha

1. Take a small portion of the dough and roll it in a small circle shape

2. Place the potato stuffing in the centre

3. Then start pleating the edges and bring it to the centre

4. Join it well

5. Dust it with some flour and start rolling carefully. Gently roll it or else the filling might come out

To make Aloo paratha

1. Heat a tawa. Place the rolled paratha on top of it 

2.when it is cooked partly, flip the paratha and add some ghee or oil and spread it.

3.flip again and do the same for another side 

4. Now cook the paratha from both the side. you will see the brown spots on the Aloo paratha 

5. Cook the paratha from both the sides properly

6. Aloo paratha is ready to serve.

Serving suggestions

1. Serve Aloo paratha hot it tastes good 

2. You can add butter on top of it 

3. You can serve with yoghurt, Indian pickle or mint chutney.
